Statement by Bruce C. Rashkow, Minister Counselor on Agenda Item 117: Report of the IAAC on Vacant Posts in OIOS (A/63/737) Before the Fifth Committee

Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

The United States welcomes the Independent Audit Advisory Committee (IAAC) report (A/63/737) relating to the numerous vacancies in OIOS and differences as to the procedures for filling the long vacant position of the head of the Investigation Division and other appointments in OIOS. My delegation believes that the report raises serious and important issues. We agree with the IAAC that it is important to fill all vacancies without delay. We also believe it is important that the operational independence of the OIOS be respected when dealing with personnel matters. For these reasons, we believe that it is important for the Committee to address the issues raised in the IAAC report.
