FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ambassador Rice: Good morning, I am just going to make a few brief remarks in my capacity as Security Council President. The Security Council had a briefing today from the Chair of the Sudan Sanctions Committee and adopted two resolutions extending the mandate of the missions in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Ambassador Mayr-Harting, the Chair of the 1591 Sudan Sanctions Committee, briefed the Council on the Committee's activities over the previous 90 days.
He highlighted recent findings from the UN Panel of Experts for Sudan about the developments in Darfur.
This was a regularly-scheduled briefing and Council members expressed support for the Committee's work. The Committee looks forward to receiving the Panel of Experts’ final report within the month.
Thank you.
