On behalf of the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, I extend our condolences to the family and friends of Ambassador William Scranton, former governor of Pennsylvania and U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.

Mr. Scranton dedicated his life to the people of Pennsylvania, the United States and the world. He founded Pennsylvania’s Board of Education and dedicated much of his work to ensuring access to affordable education to all. At the UN, his quiet diplomacy and commitment to human rights was well respected by his colleagues. Mr. Scranton’s career of public service is a model of dedication to improving the lives of others, and he will be missed.
